Åre

Great slopes around the coziest village in Sweden

Åre

Åre is a mountain village in Sweden with a wide range of ski slopes, shops, restaurants and bars. Contrary to what you would expect to find in a ski village, Åre has an atmosphere reminiscent of the city. For that reason, many guests from the country’s capital like to come to Åre to spend their ski holiday. The ski slopes and the beautiful views from the mountains in Åre have often been the setting for events, such as the World Cup.

In 2018, Åre has been voted best ski resort in Sweden for the sixth time in a row by the World Ski Awards. The small mountain village is well-known far beyond the borders for the many television moments recorded here and the world-famous competitions that have taken place here.

Åre is easy to reach from two different airports: Östersund in Sweden and Trondheim in Norway. Of course, it is also possible to travel to Åre by car, but keep in mind that the drive from the port in Oslo takes about 8 hrs.

As mentioned before, the charm of this mountain village comes with the metropolitan coziness. This is reflected in the restaurants and shops that are often early adopters of new trends. In Åre, you can enjoy the lovely ski slopes with great snow during the day and join one of the cozy restaurants for a good dinner in the evening.

The Åre ski area is divided into three areas that are linked by lifts or the ski bus. Åre Björnen is perfect for families with young children, due to the fact you will find large children’s areas and many beginner slopes here. The Duved / Tegefjäll area is also suitable for beginners. The skiing around the village of Åre is world-famous: here, you will find the slopes that have also been used in the World Cups. The view from the top of Åreskutan mountain (at 1,420 metres above sea level) is breathtakingly beautiful. For those looking for more challenging slopes, off-piste skiing and ski touring, everything is nearby.

In Åre, you will experience a fantastic winter holiday: skiing or snowboarding on the versatile slopes during the day and fun moments in the many restaurants and bars in the evening.
